Introduction to Registry Problems

Since their introduction a few decades back, computers have

become a very important part of our lives. From students to scientists, everybody depends on computers to perform their tasks. As we become more dependent on computers, it becomes that much more important to keep them error-free.

As we continue to work on our PC, install and uninstall programs, browse the Internet and work with various applications installed on it, a lot of unwanted data gets on to our computer. Additionally, a lot of information gets added to the Windows registry, which is a central hierarchal repository containing configuration information related to hardware and software installed on your computer.

The registry is responsible for supplying the necessary information to the Windows operating system, applications, and all other tasks that are performed on your computer. In due course, as information is added to and removed from the registry, it gets full of a lot of unwanted information and registry holes, which are vacant spaces left by data removed from the registry. Many times, malware, such as viruses, spyware, and Trojans, add malicious entries in the registry or alter existing registry entries. All these put together may cause severe damage to the registry.

A damaged, corrupted, and fragmented registry affects your computer adversely and generates numerous system errors, and may also deteriorate system performance. In this situation, you may also suffer from frequent system freezes and crashes.

Computer Problems Caused By Problems in the Registry

Almost 90% of all computer problems are related to problems with the Windows registry. Some of the common PC problems caused by issues in the registry are:

  • Deterioration in system performance
  • Frequent system errors, such as DLL errors, ActiveX errors, and Rundll Errors
  • Slow system startup and shutdown
  • Frequent system freezes and crashes
  • Malware infections

In the most severe cases, even the hard disk of your PC may crash due to registry problems and your computer may become unbootable.

How to Clean the Registry and Prevent Computer Problems

To fix computer errors and prevent them from occurring in the first place, you will have to first keep your registry free from unwanted information. The best way to maintain a healthy registry is to use a Microsoft registry cleaner software. A large number of paid and free registry cleaner tools are available on the Internet today. You can search for and download the one that best meets your requirements and suits your budget.

Using a good a reliable registry cleaner, you can do the following tasks:

  • Automatically scan, identify, and repair registry errors related to invalid DLLs, incorrect file associations, obsolete and redundant entries, incorrect programs shortcuts, and many other such problems.
  • Periodically backup the registry so that you can easily restore it in case the current registry crashes or is damaged.
  • Defragment the registry, to compress it by removing registry holes, and re-index it to enhance the data access time.
  • Schedule registry scans, so that your registry cleaner software will automatically scan the registry in case you forget.
  • Perform many other PC maintenance tasks, such as manage startup programs, unwanted Internet Browser Help Objects (BHOs), and temporary Internet files.

In other words, with an efficient registry cleaner in hand, you can go a long way in keeping your PC free from errors, and ensure an enhanced computing experience.
