Review: Audio Commander 4.0
After the Blaze Media Pro review I wrote on tuesday, Mystik Media has asked me to review another of their products, Audio Commander. So here’s my review for Windows XP tips & tricks:
Audio Commander is a great command-line audio converter program for Windows XP. It allows you to convert from- and to a wide selection of formats, including CD, WAV, WMA, OGG, AAC, AC3, AIFF, FLAC.
The command line conversion feature is the main thing that makes Ausio Converter different from the rest. This also allows it to be inserted into other apllications.

Audio Commander is good for converting multiple files at the same time. The Add Folder comes in handy for this. For example, let’s say you have a CD of wma songs that you want to convert to mp3 for your iPod.
Instead of adding the songs one-by-one, you can just add the whole folder of them and remove some songs if you wish to. Then you specify the output folder and leave all the work to Audio Commander. The songs in a folder don’t even have to by the same file type, AC detects them automatically.
Nothing is perfect, and like all other software, Audio Commander also has some downsides. One is certainly the price. You can get other command-line MP3 converters that are almost as good – for less than half the price. And even some freeware will let you convert audio files to a good selection of formats. Will you pay $65 dollars for this? It’s up to you. But all-in-all, I’ll give Audio Commander a good 4 stars. ![]()

I have used Blaze Media Pro quite a long time ago, some several years back in time, and don’t remember any problems with it. But then after I reinstalled Windows I decided not to reinstall Blaze Media Pro. That is because I converted audio files mainly for my Samsung music player at the time and used MediaMonkey to copy files to it. MediaMonkey has an automatic audio file format converter, so there wasn’t any more necessity in Blaze Media Pro.
All in all, there are indeed a lot of conversion tools these days and $65 price tag is too much.
