A microwaved CD (don't try this at home!) - Windows XP tips & tricksHave a damaged CD or DVD that your computer can’t read? – Recover Disk can help you out. It doesn’t matter if the disk is scratched, microwaved or just incorrectly written.

To be honest, I didn’t try the microwave experiment and I recommend you don’t as well. To relieve your curiosity and save you from a harmful dose of radiation, the picture on the right shows you what a CD looks like after a bit of “cooking”.

This experiment is really bad for both the microwave oven and the CD, so I tried a safer way of testing Recover Disk out – using the good old keys and screwdriver on the poor CD…

And guess what? Recover Disk could read over 35% of it! Not too much but what more could you expect? Certainly useful to save something from a CD-full of old family photos that got run over by a truck.

It is highly unlikely that your disk will get scratched half this much, so you’ll probably get a much better percentage of data back.

The program itself has a clean, no-nonsense interface that is very simple to use. All you have to do, is to select your CD/DVD drive from a drop-down box. Depending on how damaged the disk is, it will take a minute or two to collect all the pieces of data together.

So if you have a damaged CD or DVD with very important information and are willing to pay the very reasonable $27, Recover Disk is for you. I’ll give it a good 4/5 stars.

    P.S. I’ve microwaved dozens of CDs — maybe even hundreds — with no harm to me or microwave. CDRs tend to make a terrible smell. Set timer for 1 second on high. If that doesn’t work then set timer for 2 seconds… repeat until your head explodes.

    Great post!!! It’s really interesting to recover the lost data…. Often you loose your important data, deleting files & folders which later proves to be important… At this time you need data recovery software to recover such data or to restore data safely & securely… There are many Disk Data Recovery Software & Disk Recovery Tools are available in the market…
