Review: Egnyte’s On-Demand File Servers

23 April 2009 361 views No Comment

Although there are free tools that provide a similar service (such as Google Docs), On-demand file hosting generally comes at a price. Egnyte provides one of the best file hosting services out there, but at a reasonable price.

permissionsEgnyte targets small-to-medium sized companies that need a central network to share documents and files between employees, business partners and clients. They provide unlimited (and fast) file sharing softwareEgnyte screenshot - Windows XP tips & tricks which is organized into folders. Each folder’s access can be restricted to groups or specific users so you can be sure that your files can only be seen by the people you want.

Egnyte’s quick search tool lets users instantly find the file they want off the server and save a lot of time. They also have a handy tool for uploading multiple files and folders: just drag them into a specific area the interface.

Egnyte’s “local cloud” provides a cache of the server’s files on the users computer, so they can be accessed offline. Although the online servers are very fast, accessing files locally is even faster.

The price of Egnyte’s file hosting plans depends on the number of users, not the amount of webspace – a very reasonable $15/mo. per administrator. Each admin account includes 20 normal accounts.
